About
Exit 12 is a contemporary dance company committed to connecting the global
front through the art of dance. Founded by Sargent Roman Baca (USMC) upon returning
from a tour in Fallujah, Iraq, the company strives to create and perform works of
high cultural significance. These works are intended to educate audiences about the
realities of conflict and war, as well as serve those who have been affected by conflict
and war by channeling their stories and experiences through dance. In order to reach
these diverse types of audiences, the company has toured nationally and internationally
while remaining devoted to promoting diversity, mutual understanding through cultural
exchange, and the humanity and dignity of all persons. Baca has made sure this mission
is carried out by personally returning to the war zones of Iraq, and teaching the children
of these areas how to express themselves through dance. He has extended this mission
by continuing this type of arts outreach work within the New York City public school
system.
Mission:
EXIT12 is a contemporary dance company committed to creating and performing works of high cultural significance that inspire conversations about worldly
differences and the lasting effects of violence and conflict on communities, families, and individuals. Through movement, we educate audiences about the
reality of war, advocate diversity and mutual understanding through cultural exchange, and champion the humanity and dignity of all persons.
EXIT12 supports and advances the notion that art heals, and is devoted to serving those who have been touched by conflict by expressing their stories.
Vision:
EXIT12 strives to be a company of dancers who are inspired to enact change and promote peace in our communities and worldwide through movement. We aspire to connect with audience members on a global front and tour nationally and internationally, including to areas of the world affected by conflict.
EXIT12 will remain committed to serving veteran populations by channeling their stories and experiences through dance, and will use movement as a vehicle for social change and a means for promoting cross-cultural understanding. We endeavor to advocate non-violence, instill a sense of power and civic responsibility in our audience members, and cultivate informed social dialogue that transcends the medium of dance.
